ulzzang

Uljjang, also spelled as Ulzzang (Korean pronunciation: [ʌl.tɕ͈äŋ]), is a popular South Korean term literally meaning "best face" or "good-looking". A slang term often used by netizens, contests competing for the title of uljjang are often held online. Many uljjangs have entered the Korean entertainment business and some have risen to stardom. The practice originated in South Korea and is mainly found in Korea, China and Japan, but can also be found in Taiwan, the United States, Canada, and Europe.[1]

[edit] Characteristics
Most uljjangs share similar features. They usually have big eyes (the main focus), a high nose bridge and fair light skin. Even though in Korean the term uljjang means "best face", it is not necessary to meet all of these standards. However, imitators (mostly in Japan, China, Taiwan,) tend to create a more exaggerated look resembling dolls or anime characters with the use of makeup, false eyelashes and eyeliner or mascara.
